Reclaiming
My daughter and I, each in our own domiciles, are currently reclaiming our spaces and, in my case, I’m also redesigning my space. It occurred to me during meditation that as we reclaim our personal space in a household, we are also reclaiming a part of ourselves that we, somehow, gave away or lost track of.
It’s so easy to give ourselves away without consciously doing so, and all too often for what seemed to be good and loving reasons. From my own personal experience of having to go back and find, recover, and embrace myself and then consider why I’d lost those parts in the first place, I have to say, for whatever reason, giving myself away never works! It does not serve me, and it oftentimes does not really serve whoever I gave some part of myself to.
Redesigning my space seems to mean I’m redesigning myself as well. I suspect this is no real surprise, since I’ve been doing so since I began my healing journey in 1972! Becoming who I AM, really, is not a one-off! It seems to be a continuous journey. Not only a healing journey, but a spiritual journey as well.
Sometimes reclaiming space involves really evaluating the objects that are in my space. What is there because of an emotional attachment to a person or memory in the past? What is there because I like it for its beauty, harmony, or pleasure? Some things simply give me a sense of balance (like little dishes of rocks!).
The questions then become: What can I keep because it reflects who I am? What can I let go of because it reflects who I used to be, or thought I should be, or was being as a reflection of a loved one?
In these times when so much is pulling at us – our hearts, our minds, our beliefs – it is far too easy to give parts of ourselves away to what is crying for attention, healing, and change. It becomes a daily (sometimes moment-to-moment) challenge to stay firmly grounded in Love/Light, observe and hold Quan Yin’s statement that “There is nothing but Perfect Love,” and do her suggested practice, “So, you must be looking beyond the appearances of un-love to the Perfect Love that is the foundation of all life.”
For those of you who are also reclaiming and/or redesigning your personal and communal spaces, Blessings! Keep at it. It is well worth the time, effort, and consideration. It is part of the journey you have undertaken for yourself, and for the world.
Blessings,
Charlotte
